How does Animation Lab work?

The Animation classroom is upstairs and to the left—it is the only classroom on the left side of the hall. There are 9 seats complete with all of the tech needed to complete an 2D animated film! Additionally, we have one stop motion station.

You are welcome to use our tech, or learn on your own. Some students bring their own iPads or other materials, which is usually fine. No food or drink is allowed in the animation lab to protect the technology. A water bottle with a leak proof lid can be stored under the desk.

The instructor will start by talking with you individually about your goals to determine the next best steps. Everyone is different, and the opportunities in animated filmmaking are nearly endless. Goals might range from making an animated GIF to creating an entire film! It might help to have some inspiration material to show the instructor.

Next, your instructor will teach you about the software we have available on the computers. It can take time to adjust to any software, but the instructor will be available to help you along.

Animation can take a long time—even the most basic animated clips take at least ten hours to complete, but most refined animated films can take upwards of 100 hours. Don't be discouraged if you don't have a finished product at the end of one class! Keep attending classes to learn new skills that will help you grow as an animator, and pretty soon you'll have your very own animated film!
